The Dualshock is the Playstation 4 default gamepad and a great controller that is iconic to gaming almost everywhere.
You might think so too, and want to use it to play on other consoles aside from the PlayStation 4. Well, we already explained how to connect it to a PC, but what about an Xbox One?
Can you connect a PS4 controller to the Xbox One?
No, you can´t use the Dualshock on the Xbox One, at least not normally. Sony´s gamepad is not compatible with the Xbox One like it is with the PC. There isn´t a natural way to play with it on Microsoft´s console.
However...
You can connect it to your Xbox if you are willing to pay for it.
How?
By buying an adapter, Brook´s PS3/PS4 to Xbox One Controller Adapter to be more precise.
This little dongle will let you play with your Playstation 4 and 3 gamepads on the Xbox One, even the not Dualshock controllers like Arcade Sticks and some driving wheels (here´s the full list of compatible controllers).
You should not experience any noticeable input lag when you use this device. Its only main drawback is that you will need to frequently update its drivers to keep up with Sony´s and Microsoft´s own firmware updates.
How does Brooke´s PS4 to Xbox adapter work?
Using the adapter is simple, but it requires a bit of setup the first time you use it, as it needs to register the controller.
Plug the adapter to your Xbox One, and then your controller to the adapter with a USB cable, then wait for a couple of minutes until your DualShock´s lights turn on. If nothing happens, try pressing a button and see if the screen reacts.
If everything went well, unplug the USB cable from the adapter and begin playing wirelessly.
The next time you want to play, you don´t need to plug in your controller with the cable, simply connect the adapter and press the home button on the gamepad while the console is hibernating or shut down.
That´s it. You should be able to play with your Dualshock 4 without issue. The adapter will automatically reconfigure the buttons, but you can customize them if you want.
This product does have a couple of glaring limitations. For one, it only works with one controller, so if you want to play with two, you´ll have to buy an additional adapter. The other problem is that the audio jack on your gamepad will not work, you can´t connect your headphones to it while you play.

What about the reverse? Using an Xbox Controller on the Playstation 4?
Unfortunately, this adapter doesn't work in reverse, but the same company did release the opposite product, the Xbox One Controller to PS4 Console Super Converter.
You can use this dongle to play with your Microsoft Wireless Controller or the Elite gamepads on your PS4, it works pretty much the same way as the Playstation adapter. Just keep in mind that it doesn´t support the controller's headphone jack, so no headsets will work with it.
And there you have it...
The only way to play with a Playstation 4 controller on the Xbox One is by buying a third-party adapter. If you are willing to pay for it, using it is quite simple.
